Against The Tide
05:51
|
|||
heavy like concrete in my feet
why does your heart choose not to beat?
deliver the scripture, hymns
and passages that teach us how to cope
grant us the acumen to quell our fears
and hold on to hope
and maybe we will
maybe we will
clarity comes to me in my dreams
enters my window like a breeze
feels like a storm is stirring
devil winds come screaming through the floor
run down the stairs, secure
the planks across the cellar door
I feel the tide pulling me deep
I try to reach for the hands
that stretch out reaching for me
skin is cold, muscles weak
I see a vision of home
they’re all grieving for me
I’m so tired but can’t sleep
I search a sky full of stars
for the dreams that I seek
I can’t decide if memories
help me deal with the past
or drag me deeper in grief
wake when the sunlight hits my eye
heaven put blue back in the sky
cover my eyes and stand in blindness
‘cause reflections are too bright
never before have I been so in awe
through gleam of sapphire
I feel the tide pulling me deep
I try to reach for the hands
that stretch out reaching for me
skin is cold, muscles weak
I see a vision of home
they’re all grieving for me
I’m so tired but can’t sleep
I search a sky full of stars
for the dreams that I seek
I can’t decide if memories
help me deal with the past
or drag me deeper in grief

City Of Sorrow
04:48
|
|||
walking alone in this city of sorrow
packing to leave, always tomorrow
you stand in my door for pennies to borrow
(but I’ve got no pennies)
your prophetic dreams, they never seem far off
(and my thoughts feel scattered)
building it up and then knocking it down
children inherit a desolate town
followed your heart and then look what you’ve found
hold you close and the tragedies start to fade away
hold me tight and the misery starts to fade away
drink enough and the scenery starts to fade away
dream enough and the memories start to fade away
walking with you through this city of sorrow
luminous beams cross a street full of shadow
I tell you my dreams, did I see you smile
(‘cause I’ve not yet seen that)
and stories of old might go on for miles
(like the wanders we have)
building it up and then knocking it down
children inherit a desolate town
followed your heart and then look what you’ve found
hold you close and the tragedies start to fade away
hold me tight and the misery starts to fade away
drink enough and the scenery starts to fade away
dream enough and the memories start to fade away
Walking with you through the city of sorrow
Walking with you through the city of sorrow
Walking with you through the city of sorrow
Walking with you through the city of sorrow

Ella
04:34
|
|||
Ella is out in her garden
dreaming out where her flowers bloom
stays until she is starving
hurries home where her dinner is ruined
she dreams of being a singer
in a gown on a golden stage
and with the life it might bring her
close the book on a faded page
she’s often lost in a day dream
she finds that things are more peaceful there
strangers aren’t what they may seem
she hides behind the long bangs of her hair
wrapped up in a good book
harbor from the tempests we know
gaze out with a blank look
grey skies roll across her window
records with their warm tones
lean back with the music we love
hot tea with a warm scone
grey skies roll across my window
flowers thrive in the summer
spread their leaves and their shoots grow tall
rain and soft rolling thunder
fall asleep in the cold of the fall
she dreams of being a singer
in a gown on a golden stage
and with the life it might bring her
close the book on a faded page
wrapped up in a good book
harbor from the tempests we know
gaze out with a blank look
grey skies roll across her window
records with their warm tones
lean back with the music we love
hot tea with a warm scone
grey skies roll across my window

Pentecost
04:43
|
|||
grey skies above us
loom above a lonely town
bad breaks and hard luck
bringing everybody down
and the people that pass us
their faces all look the same
umbrellas and jackets
strangers never know their names
under your spell and I couldn’t tell
where the lies stopped and started
taking our time, planning our crime
black when our union parted
grey skies above us
boil like a bitter broth
bear shelter for us
feel our bodies wrapped in cloth
hear bells in the distance
cemetery rife with birch
tomorrow is Sunday
and town’s people meet in church
read a note from the neighbors
they’re sorry for the family’s loss
the day that she favored
fell upon the Pentecost
under your spell and I couldn’t tell
where the lies stopped and started
taking our time, planning our crime
black when our union parted
grey skies above us
boil like a bitter broth
bear shelter for us
feel our bodies wrapped in cloth
